Description
The Canavese is an area of Piedmont that extends between the Alps to the north, the Po to the south, the Stura di Lanzo stream to the west and the Serra di Ivrea to the east. The Louis XIV chest of drawers, intact in all its parts, has the main characteristics that make these furniture typical of the area. It was made of solid walnut, partially veneered in walnut and inlaid with maple, with some ebonized parts, while the interiors are in original poplar of the time with boards arranged horizontally and fixed by nails. The top, built in a single walnut plank, is profiled in walnut arranged in the counter vein, also called “threaded head” and inlaid in maple in the center, side and at the edges. The front is marked by four identical drawers, decorated with double relief tiles with a central folder veneered in walnut, inlaid with maple and ebonized contours. the two lateral ones are of elongated rectangular shape, while the central one, hosting the patch, is rhomboid in shape. The drawers are inserted “abutment” into the front and the ebonized edge that delimits the perimeter stands out on the surface of uprights and chains veneered in walnut. The handles, as authentic and characteristic as the escutcheon, are in the shape of a sash grafted onto a pair of rosettes. The front edges are notched and decorated with precious maple inlays. The pattern is repeated on the sides in turn inlaid with maple which reflect the elegance of the inlay on the top. The feet, arranged obliquely according to the inclination of the corner of which they constitute the extension, are formed by a series of overlapping moldings, but they can also appear in the shape of an onion. A furniture of great value. Unique pieces.
